Record price for Spreydon Lodge yearling
Spreydon Lodge enjoyed it’s highest price ever for a yearling from its draft at this week’s New Zealand Bloodstock Christchurch Standardbred Sale, with a colt by the first season sire Vincent fetching an incredible $215,000 on day one of the pacing session.
Offered on behalf of Spreydon Lodge and Helen Conaghan, the colt out of Suzy’s Delight, and thus a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner Locharburn and Group 2 winner Cullenburn, attracted strong bidding in the ring with Vincent’s former owner, and renown judge of horseflesh, Jean Feiss eventually securing the colt for a phenomenal $215,000.
The price eclipsed the company’s previous record price of $190,000, paid for Franco Stallone (now named Puntarno Stride), a Bettor’s Delight colt out of San Rafaella back in 2017 at the NZ Premier Yearling Sale.
It was also an Australasian record price for a yearling by a first season sire.
Other sales highlights included a Vincent colt out of full-sister to the Group 1 winner Democrat Party making $67,500 and a Captaintreacherous colt out of San Rafaella selling to Kentuckiana Lodge for $55,000.
Spreydon Lodge finished the two day Christchurch pacing session as the second leading consignor by average with its seven yearlings selling for an average of $65,214.
